Title: Monte Cristo Sandwich Variations

Yield: 6 Servings

1/4cButter; softened or
1/4cMayo
2tsPrepared mustard
12slWhite bread; French or Italian, thick slices, slightly stale
6slSwiss cheese
6slCooked ham and/or
6slCooked turkey breast
3 Eggs; beaten
1pnGarlic powder
1/3cMilk
  Butter; for frying or
  Oil; for deep frying

In a small bowl beat together the butter [or mayo] and mustard until well blended. Spread on one side of each slice of bread. For each sandwich, top one slice of bread with a slice of cheese, a slice of ham and/or turkey and the second slice of bread, butter side down. In a medium bowl beat together the eggs, garlic powder and milk. Dip each sandwich into the egg batter.

Brown both sides of the sandwich on a lightly buttered frying pan or griddle. Then place on a cookie sheet and bake in a 425 oven for 8 to 10 minutes to finish.

Or carefully lower sandwiches, one at a time, into hot oil (375 degrees); deep fry until golden brown, turning once. Drain.

Slice each sandwich in half and serve hot.
